WHAT IS SCALP MICRO-PIGMENTATION?

Scalp Micropigmentation (sometimes referred to as SMP) is a semi permanent solution that replicates the appearance of thicker, fuller hair. Specialized pigment is applied to the scalp with a digital machine using micro-fine needles to create thousands of tiny impressions, giving the illusion of hair. Additionally, scalp micropigmentation can enhance an existing hair restoration or provide an alternative to individuals who want a non-surgical treatment suitable for all types of hair loss.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

DO BOTH MEN AND WOMEN GET SCALP MICROPIGMENTATION?

YES! Scalp micropigmentation can provide definition for full front, side, and rear hairlines as well as restore a front hairline for full or partially bald heads. For those with a shaved head or no hair at all, the result is the look of a close shave or buzz cut style. SMP is also ideal for women with diffused thinning; it is great for hiding patches where the scalp is visible through the hair.

- Non-candidates for hair transplantation

- Those with transplanted hair who want to enhance their existing restoration

HOW CAN I BOOK AN APPOINTMENT?

Appointments can be made via email, text, phone call, or via the Contact page here. I currently take afternoon and evening appointments Monday through Friday.

A deposit via cash, PayPal, or Venmo is required to ensure you are serious about receiving your tattoo. Your deposit is nonrefundable but goes towards the final price of your tattoo. No appointments will be confirmed without a deposit, and the remainder of your balance is due at the time of your appointment.

WHAT KIND OF PIGMENT IS USED IN SCALP TATTOOING?

Unlike body tattoos, which are made using carbon based ink, cosmetic tattoos are created using iron oxide based pigments. These pigments are safe to use and are designed to fade over time.

DOES SCALP MICROPIGMENTATION HURT?

Topical anesthetics are used to maximize your comfort during any cosmetic tattooing procedure; however, pain tolerance varies from client to client. You can expect some minor level of discomfort during the procedure similar to light pricking.

HOW LONG WILL MY TATTOO LAST?

Cosmetic tattooing is considered semi-permanent as it does not wash away; however, pigments are designed to fade over time. Factors such as skin type, iron deficiency, pigment color (lighter colors fade faster) and sun exposure can affect the rate at which these pigments are broken down. Scalp micropigmentation requires a minimum of two sessions, and with proper care, can be expected to last 4-6 years.

*Please note that final results CANNOT be guaranteed as everyone retains and breaks down pigment differently, and a follow-up appointment is required after 3-5 days in which we can assess your pigment retention and make any changes necessary. People with lighter hair, correction work, or particularly sparse hair may require more than one follow-up to reach their desired look at an additional cost.

WHAT FACTORS WILL AFFECT MY TATTOO?

-Bleeding during the procedure: excessive bleeding during your procedure will greatly affect how your body retains pigment. While this is not entirely in our control, it is important that you follow prep instructions to help minimize bleeding. This includes avoiding blood thinning medications, alcohol, and caffeine before your procedure.

-Smoking: Smokers may notice that their tattoo will fade faster

-Anemia and iron deficiency: Your body will absorb these iron based pigments more quickly.

-Sun exposure: Increased exposure to the sun will cause premature fading.

-Color of pigment: Lighter colors fade more quickly than darker colors.

If you are unsure if you are a good candidate for scalp micropigmentation, please feel free to book a consultation at no cost.

WHAT CAN I EXPECT IMMEDIATELY AFTER MY APPOINTMENT?

Immediately following your procedure, your tattoo will be barely visible as the pigment has been implanted into the scalp as opposed to on top of it. Your micropigmentation will become increasingly visible over the next 24-48 hours. You may experience some redness or swelling around the tattooed area, though this typically disappears within 48 hours.

DO I NEED A TOUCH-UP/FOLLOW-UP APPOINTMENT?

All scalp procedures require a minimum of two sessions; an initial session to establish shape and foundation, and then a perfecting, density building session 3-5 days later. During your follow-up, we can asses your pigment retention and make any adjustments needed. This follow-up also increases the longevity of your semi-permanent tattoo. It is your responsibility to book your follow-up in advance.

I HAVE HAD MY SCALP TATTOOED BEFORE; CAN YOU FIX IT/TOUCH IT UP?

I take correction and touch-up work on a limited basis; I require that anyone who has had their scalp tattooed previously by another artist disclose this information during their consultation.
